Dr Wael Al Abdulla completed his PhD in polymer science–electronic applications from University of Basra in 1996. He worked as a Research Scientist and Group Leader for 10 years in the Polymer Research Centre in the field of optical and electronic properties of semiconducting polymers and device fabrication. He published more than 50 papers in well-known journals and conferences and worked on many grant projects.
In 2006 he was awarded an Australia Endeavour Fellowship to work with Professor Whittaker of the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) as a post doctorate researcher. In 2007 he took up a position of Research Fellow in Professor Whittaker’s group working on the degradation of polymer nano composites. In 2009 he worked as a Technology Laboratory Manager for the Polymer Group and more broadly for the AIBN to manage a large proportion of the equipment in the Bionano-products Development Facility. He supervised operation and maintenance of an advanced technology laboratory containing multidisciplinary instruments, including physical characterisation and vibrational spectroscopy tools.
Wael joined the team at ANFF-Qld as a Senior Professional Officer in 2014, bringing a wealth of experience in polymer production and characterisation and another pair of highly skilled hands to the ANFF-Q team. Wael manages the ANFF-Q clean room and provides technical support and training. He is also responsible for various fabrication processes and equipment in our lithography and soft-lithography area. As a member of the AIBN Work Place Health and Safety Committee, he has participated in laboratory inductions and advises staff and students on safe laboratory practices.
