Associate Professor Erik Streed is the Director of the Queensland Quantum and Advanced Technologies Research Institute at Griffith University. He is an experimental quantum physicist working on quantum aspects to computing, sensing, and networking as well as application of quantum techniques into problems in biology and material science. His pioneering work integrating lighthouse-inspired segmented optics with trapped ion quantum computing enabled the first imaging of a single atom’s shadow.
Assoicate Professor Streed’s background includes a BSc in Physics from Caltech and a PhD in Physics from MIT, where he worked with Nobel laureate Professor W. Ketterle on Bose-Einstein condensates. He has received numerous accolades, including the Queensland Young Tall Poppy Science Award in 2011, and has taught a range of physics, mathematics, and engineering courses since becoming the Gold Coast’s first physicist.
